Well you see I've made one map and I'm in the progess of making an entirely custom one, but I've been wondering, what exactly and how exactly do I send this stuff to you?

Do i send you the .mis and all the other weird map files that torque creates but not tribes 2?

I know I send you the .mis, .ter the textures folder and any rmfs i use, as well as terrain textures, but how? in vl2 format? or can I just zip everything up and send it to you?

Also I was wondering about the png, what are the dimensions for it?

 *very confused*

hmm, also if your looking for some AI for bots, contact lagg_alot at www.tribes2maps.com, hes pretty much rewritten the bot code for tribes 2, hes managed to make bots fly vehicles, respond to commands, drive tanks, mpbs, get in havocs, bounce grenades around corners, you name it, hes done it.

oh also, could I get a .wad for buildings, I can make textures, but the ones i've seen of yours are awesome, I might edit them myself a little bit if thats ok.
e-mail me it at damned_to_be_free@hotmail.com

It would be greatly appriciated.

Minimum required files to submit a map would be the .mis, .ter, and a .png loadscreen (get dimensions from another preexisting loadscreen and crop an ss of your map to fit). Optionally, if you create custom buildings or skies, you would need to zip up those .dif and .jpg files and submit them in the same zip file with the essential map files.

As far as our textures.wad goes, look in the news section of this forum, like the third article down, I have them hosted for download.

So the terrain textures get put in the .ter? I can't see another existing loadscreen cos everythings in .dso format.

MrSniper
2003-12-18, 11:18 PM
you have to extract them from the data.unf (the loadscreens). .unf's basically = .vl2's from T2. Terrain textures are actually stored in /data/terrains (again, all packed up in the .unf), so if you are adding custom textures you put them there, and then reference them from your map. The .ter file itself stores the terraform info and the instructions for laying the textures you specifiy on the terrain.

am I allowed to edit the colour of skies and such?

MrSniper
2003-12-19, 02:04 AM
yes you can edit the color of the sky through the ingame editor, however that is not the actual images of the sky, but the color of the skybox if a graphical sky is not used. You can make your own graphical skies and implement as well.

There really isn't anything less than the T2 map editor, and there are things that are more. Just hop in the editor, play around a bit, and see what you get. I saw one of your maps on the MOTW @ t2maps.com so I know you know a little bit about this stuff :). You can also hook up with me in IRC to talk realtime, it usualy works better than forum tag.

need to make a server side terrain kit for us to dl hehe.So we dont have to worry about taking out stuff.I like to do server side mostly because no one has to worry bout dling.I used to make my own terrains and stuff back in my early days in tribes2 mapping but now its just server side.I can make buildings and such for t2 but i dunno how to look at them in the game or however you get them in a map i make in the interior list.Wish i knew because i sure am tired of using ingame buildings and major map packs buildings..i have a butt load of ideas that i can make, but this worldcraft is so..so old tec i guess haha...i more of a ut based editor i can make anything in that editor...i got my crap to work a long time ago when i edited a map on quake3( i think it was quake 3) that radiant program.Anyway..my christmas list is to have a good tutorial or a brief basic on how to get buildings from worldcraft to tribes2 or legends...santa if u hear me..please PLEASE PLEASSE ..**help**

Yeah mr, i know its pretty much the same as the t2 engine, as I have actually dished out the monies for a torque engine months ago. I didnt get very far, but I'd be more than happy to help you with mapping in anyway. I havnt made cs maps before, but I have gotten worldcraft to work, thanks to a friend. Ghost or =Ace=, these are the programs you need.

1)Hammer
2)t2wc_docs.zip (you can get this from www.tribes2maps.com last time I checked)
3)Wally_155b (wad making thingy)
4)IFC22.zip, this is a .dll you need, not sure if you need it for legends.

I'll try and find the site I got them off for you, and post them tonight, If you have msn add me at damned_to_be_free@hotmail.com, Maybe we could help each other with maps and such.

Also sniper, I meant more like getting the sky, putting it into photoshop, recolouring the background or something, wala. From looking at the cool day/night cycle code you have, would It be fair to say a deep blue looking sky would work best with this?

MrSniper
2003-12-19, 02:27 PM
alright, I desperately want you guys to make some hawt maps for Legends, so I'm gonna do write up a doc. I'll post it as a news article and in here when I get done.

Riavan

I will even if it takes me weeks, cept I kinda need help with a sky
Wondering how you create your terrains? with a bump map?

BTW sniper, since you used to have a inv on the roof, some maps have inventorys stuck in the roof...

MrSniper
2003-12-19, 04:49 PM
yeah thats fixed in the next version. You create terrains with either a heightfield image, or the terraform editor (f6 or something once you are in the map editor) or a combination of both.

Riavan
2003-12-19, 11:16 PM
If I've made cs terrain before in tribes 2, will i be able to get it into legends? Seeing that I made it with custom textures?

MrSniper
2003-12-20, 04:30 AM
You can import heightfields from Tribes 2, you just have to convert the textures to be ours, not the ones from T2. And if you've made custom terrain textures then of course you can use em!

Currently I've made a beach map, which uses interiors from the map with the giant cravass inbetween the bases, cant remember what its called. Its got custom ground textures and such though. and 25 spawn points per team, I hope thats enough.

Also I'm in the process of a map based on dangerous crossing from tribes 1,
Post pics tonight

What folder/dir do I put a bitmap or bumpmap (whatever you wish to call it)?

MrSniper
2003-12-21, 01:25 PM
/legends/common/edit/mapEditor/heightScripts is where you place heightfields.

if you create your own bump maps, they should be placed in /legends/data/textures/terrains/detail

Riavan
2003-12-22, 01:10 AM
ok so i placed it in that exact dir you gave me, added the png, went into the terraformer, clicked "bitmap" clicked "load" and nothing is there...

MrSniper
2003-12-22, 03:08 AM
heightScripts must be EXACTLY like that, with the S capitalized. I created heightscripts at first, and it failed to work. I have two bitmaps in my heightScripts dir and they both load just fine (I've made two separate maps using them).

how would i go by setting up the legends in the config of worldcraft?Do the same as the t2 directions?

Riavan
2003-12-22, 06:23 AM
I suggest just setting it up for t2, then importing them into legends when your done

yes, Legends uses the tribes.fdg or whatever file which contains all of the Torque entities. All you have to do is link in that file and the interiors.wad and you are good to go.

so the buildings can use tribes2 textures in legends?

Gh0st
2003-12-22, 11:15 PM
or can i make my own textures and use that wad thingy to make the texture pack? Before i make my buildings.i should make my textures first then make the wad file and import the wad file into worldcraft and then ill be able to add them to my building(s).After i am done with my building and all my textures do i have to add anything else..any lighting...or what?

Riavan
2003-12-23, 12:38 AM
Ok ghost, answering your questions.
1) mr sniper meant that all you need to do is add the legends wad into hammer, and then when you move the buildings itll work fine.
2) no, you cannot use tribes 2 textures
3)If your going to make custom textures, and not use the ones legends provides you (on this forum theres a download if you didnt know) do, do it the way you said, In world craft theres actually a lighting option (used for putting lights on the inside, if its small (with windows)then sunlight from the map will come into it anyway. Youll also need to make portals on the doors.

Mr sniper with portals,
1) how do i place them
2) how do I turn off the vehicle blocker part of them

Does the interiors.wad seem to work for anyone? It sure as hell dosnt for me... <_<

ack ack ack!!! When i ever get to see my building(s) in tribes2/legends that will be the day!:) Anyway maybe you 2 can assist me in some way and gain major credit on some buildings. Can i just make the buildings with a plain texture lets say grey cement texture from tribes 2 and send the file to you guy(s) would you do the texturing for me?We can create a huge data base of buildings or something.

Riavan
2003-12-24, 12:13 AM
hmm, I would, but you see this is the first time I've done buildings (by myself) and the actual map making is alot more fun.

Mr sniper, the legends textures dont show when i export into t2, will they work if i just put the interior into legends, or is there something wrong with the wad

Gh0st
2003-12-24, 03:11 AM
here is what kinda happens when i go to see my structure in t2..as a t2 skinned building. At first when i ran my map..it would say to run tribes2 online u will have to click the online shortcuts or something. So i changed the exe to the solo offline one and then it let me go to my game..next i went to host a game and i select mission type and i think it says interiors in the list...so i click that..it loads then UE's on my ass..whats the deal.

Gh0st
2003-12-24, 03:16 AM
the thing i select in game is called interior preview..this time i made it in the map but there was nuthing there and couple sec. later i UEed

MrSniper
2003-12-24, 05:32 AM
Alright, lets settle a couple things:

#1, the .wad works fine, because the one I uploaded is the very one I use to do all my work.

#2, disconnect Legends and Tribes 2 completely in your mind, so not attempt to test anything from one in the other. Disconnect your configurations inside of Hammer, do not mix and match T2 wads, textures, or config files with the Legends ones.

#3, here is my layout, it has successfully produced about 10 interiors for Legends:

My game config, in Tools -> Options -> Game Configurations
http://s87299870.onlinehome.us//legends/interiors/hammer/config_1.jpg

My .wad setup, in Tools -> Options -> Textures
http://s87299870.onlinehome.us/legends/interiors/hammer/config_2.jpg

My texture painter window.

My entire map dev window.

Riavan
2003-12-25, 07:56 AM
ok well mr sniper, I have it set up for tribes2, i dont mix wads or anything. Legends wads wont work in the t2 previwer thing tho, am i correct?

MrSniper
2003-12-25, 01:01 PM
I have no idea what the T2 previewer thing is because I never touched T2 interior creation in any way. I do not think it should work because the textures are completely different. Legends does have any preview tool because our game boots up so much faster than T2, its easier just to export your difs right into the interiors directory, fire up Legends, and pop them in a map.

Riavan
2003-12-25, 11:56 PM
Ok, I'll give it a go

I'm still fiddling around with worldcraft... and my legends update got totally "bunged" do you have any idea how long its going to take to download on my 56k... *sigh*
