I use Bryce 4/5 to make skies for Legends, but I haven't ever used a heightfield from it.
It shouldn't be that hard really, just make the camera point straight down at your terrain and texture it according to height, then render and save an image, and convert it to green (high) and black(low) gradient in PS, then save as png and pop it into legends.
One thing that is important to know about heightfields from any program is where the go. You must put your heightfield images in : Legends/common/edit/mapEditor/heightScripts before loading legends. If you modify your heightfield outside of legends you hasve to close and reload legends and reimport the heightfield for it to take effect.

Tribes 2 and Legends use pretty much the same editor, but the legends one is slightly more powerful. Personally I'm going to try and persuade you that bryce is pretty much just a waste of effort and time in the torque engine (for terrain). It stands as the best way to make skys though. The best way to make terrain is with a bump map, and then theres options in the terrain editor to apply textures bases on height and such. Read it up in the forums at www.tribes2maps.com/forums/

Actually I'd argue that its not the best way to make skies, but that TerraGen and/or cube mapping is. Bryce skies still look pancake flat.
